Sharing the passion

I realised I had a passion for painting ever since I was a little kid. The many colours and the way I could make the lines move fascinated me, much to my mother’s woes. She wondered why every time I was asked to do homework, I always ran for my drawing book.  But you know what, she understood me – just as I do with my kids now – I remember her buying me all those fancy art supplies from the market store even though there were not so many stores nearby then.

My daughter too shares the same passion – and may I say I’m so so glad. I just understand why she always reaches for her art book and if you don’t hear her loud voice busy fighting with or bulling her baby sister, it’s because she is buried in her new art project that just has caught her fancy.  No surprise when she came home with a prize basket for her school drawing contest entry. Need I tell you, I was more excited than her?

For all you parents out there, with creative kids, you know what I am talking about.  I now only wish she can draw finer lines and use lighter shades of colour to show more light, and if only she would choose her topics more carefully, allow me to help (ha ha),  and ............. if she can wash up after she finishes!

Also after having my own two little kids that I am now responsible for and wholly committed to, time to think and stare has become so little and precious, and I need it most to re-focus and re-energize myself or else the whole parenting thing can become a big mess. Being a full time mom, working at office and home, feels like being a super-hero sometimes, I would like to believe an Angelina Jolie type of sleek, strong, passionate, super-focused, dedicated....(the list can go on and on) superstar (but without the super-maid/butler/driver kinda extra backup).  Without getting distracted about the Jolie girl and, back to my precious sparse spare time, I actually managed to do a proper painting on canvas with acrylics! And without having any melt-downs with kids still running around playing, making a mess, but the painting did reach completion and up on my wall at last!  And of course getting my girls excited about water colors at the same time!! Big pat on the back!!!

The colors of the sun – the most painted theme ever – and this is my rendition.

Wanted: Family Physician

What’s wrong with doctors these days? They are no more pursuing a vocation but just a job/career like most of us. They are there to do a job to earn themselves a living. And their specialised trait - or should I say – chosen course of study – is medicine, like others may choose to study finance, engineering, painting, or physiotherapy or massage. That’s absolutely understandable and they have our respect for serving the community, in a way – by consulting and advising and prescribing to all those who approach them.

But hang on... Whatever happened to the well respected family doctor, who took his profession as a vocation, making it their mission to diagnose correctly, advise correctly, prescribe correctly, and most importantly having a caring attitude – to listen and empathise where necessary! You just don’t get that these days right? Did I mention diagnosis – yeah spot-on diagnosis, not plain assumptions and delayed /hesitant/irresolute diagnosis like we have come to expect these days.

With all the advances in medicine and research, we have numerous more treatments and vaccines available to us today. Deadly illnesses are no more considered life threatening – talk about penicillin and its boons. Great stuff. What we still need and want – is the caring, listening, vocational family physician – is anyone still out there?

I hope – with my effort at creating these blog pages – you will be able to find in here some answers and tips on how-to do a lot of things you would normally want to in the home, including some home remedies and other health information like what to do with kids with allergies, and the sort. So make ensure you visit my page more often. I'll be really glad to read your feedback and opinions.

Backdrop: At the doctor’s clinic with an ailing child who dreads the thought of visiting the doctors. Waiting for half an hour now – and that’s not so bad these days. The Dr. doesn’t want to waste time with an uneasy child, so advised us to calm her down while she consults another patient. The Dr.’s back now, checks ears, throat, heart, gives us a container to collect a urine sample and return the next day, and advises us to continue with the increased liquid intake and rest while walking us out through the door – its 5:00 pm and she needs to leave early today!

Cherish the moment

Winterlicious. Winter wonderland. Winter blues. bla bla bla. Brr brrr brrrr….

Call it state of the mind. You can think of winter and come up with images of ice and snow, fur coats and snow boots, blues, greys, whites. Or… you could conjure up images of hot chocolate and freshly brewed coffee with freshly baked cookies, warm fireplace, cosy duvets, skiing, reds, oranges, browns.

See what I am trying to get across. State of the mind. My only advice – “make the most of everything, live life to the fullest”.

Drop the moaning and complaining, just get on with it. Cherish the moment.

Northern Hemisphere / Southern Hemisphere. Cold towards one end of the pole and hot on the other. Imagine moving from stunning New Zealand to gorgeous Canada. Surviving two winters in a single year! My friends say I didn’t plan it well. Well, on the brighter side, how many people get the opportunity to do that! I’m counting my blessings. Cherish the moment.

I’ve had a huge break from blogging because of this major shift in focus I am experiencing for the past couple of months. But I aim to continue pressing on, blogging on, writing more How2 snippets.  Hope you enjoy the journey with me.
